God’s Plans > My Plans: How To Surrender Your Plans
God’s Plan, God’s Plan…….and no, that’s not a reference to the popular record by the artist Drake.
Going through life, I’ve realized that God’s plan can be drastically different from my own.
There are things that I thought I would have by now. There are accomplishments that I thought I would have reached by now. There are goals that I thought I would have met by now.
I’m sure I’m not alone in these sentiments. It’s a learned fact that my plans and God’s plans are sometimes two separate things.
Being honest, I’ve faced disappointment on occasions when my plan and God’s plan didn’t align. If you’ve ever dealt with disappointment, you know how painful it can be.
However, every day I’m learning to accept that God’s plans for my life are ultimately what’s best. They say that hindsight is 20/20, and looking back at some of the plans I had setup for myself, I’m grateful they didn’t work out.
I think it takes faith and complete trust to accept God’s plan over our own. This acceptance is something you have to contend for every day. But how do we get to that point?
We surrender.
Surrender means to let go or relinquish. You let go and release. You release your desires, goals, and dreams over to God. Trusting that He, ultimately, knows what’s best. God’s plans for us are good. They are not to harm us.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11
His thoughts are higher than ours, and his ways not our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9).
Perhaps your plan was going to cause you distress two years down the road – so God had to block it.
Maybe that goal you had was aiming too low – so God had to redirect your path.
Perhaps that desire was leading to idolatry in your heart – so God needed to realign your priorities so that you can place Him back in the center.
His plans are greater than our plans.
